RS-9330
Rosin Activated Flux

General Information and Description
The RS-9330 is a rosin low solid mildly activated flux formulated for wave soldering consumer electronic assemblies that have chip components underneath the PWB. It is also suitable for boards that have other discrete components densely packed. This low solid flux use a WW (Water White) grade rosin that leaves behind a residue that are both transparent and tack-free. This thin residue coating will enhance the moisture resistance of the PCB if the residue is not removed with cleaning. The residue of RS-9330 can be left without cleaning in conforming with JIS corrosion and IPC-SF-818 reliability test requirements. However, if assemblies need to be cleaned for appearance reasons, the flux residue can be easily removed with commonly available solvents. After cleaning, the solder joints will reveal a shiny appearance.

Application
RS-9330 is recommended for the wave soldering of consumer electronic assemblies such as Power Supplies, Televisions, VideoCassette Recorders, Radios and Cordless Phones.

Operating Procedures
•When switching to use RS-9330 from another flux, one has to ensure that the flux tank, conveyor    fingers or pallets are thoroughly cleaned with a solvent or IPA.
• Extra rinse can be done by using the recommended thinner of this flux.
• It is formulated for foam or spray fluxing. But, it can also be applied by the wave or dip method.
• In the flux foaming operation, it is important to use dry air. Flux level shall be maintained at 20 mm    above the foaming stone. The chimney opening shall be around 15 to 20 mm. A gentle air-knife is to    be installed to ensure that excessive flux is removed. If assemblies are to be soldered on fixtures,       ensure that no hot fixture is causing the deterioration in foam height.
• Control of this flux is as per other fluxes, by measuring its specific gravity and temperature periodically. • This flux is optimised at a preheating temperature of 90 to 95°C (topside of board).
• The conveyor speed, inclination angle and solder contact time are to be adjusted according to the    board design, to achieve the optimum soldering result.

Advantages
• It is classified as a rosin, mildly activated flux. It has a good soldering performance compared with    many other rosin fluxes. It can effectively solder boards that have chip components underneath.
• Its residue may be left behind without cleaning.
• Residue serves as a resistance coating against moisture.
• The high costs associated with cleaning the assemblies are eliminated.
