Data Sheet AntiOxidant Buttons SPECIALITY CHEMICALS |
| To reduce solder oxides, commonly known as dross, on wave-soldering machines and still pots, there are many dross reducing materials available. Most of these are based on mineral oils and fatty acid compounds that breakdown and get deposited on to the PCB assemblies. SMT's specialty chemical, AntiOxidant Button, is formulated And designed in 60-40 (Tin-Lead) solder button form with an Antioxidant that will help retard oxidation levels in molten Sn -Pb solders. It creates a thin layer of film on the molten solder Surface and protects it from oxidation. | |||||
| Application Procedures | |||||
| The following procedure should be performed periodically to
reduce solder dross. Whenever there is a dross build-up or a yellowish surface
(tin oxide) seen on the molten solder,the soldering process will be hindered. |
| 1. | For Dipping of component leads and wires at Temperatures of 350°C and above: | ||||
-
Scrape away oxides from the surface of the pot.
-
Add one SMT AntiOxidant button to every 1.5kg of solder bar in the dipping pot.
-
The effective time on the oxide film it can lasts depends on the solder bath temperature and area, and on the frequency of scrapping.
-
When the oxide continues to form, add buttons.
| 2. | For Wave soldering and dipping baths up to 350°C: | ||||
-
Scrape away oxides from the surface of the pot.
-
Add one SMT AntiOxidant button to every 12 to 15 kg.
-
The solder bath will remain bright silvery.
-
Treatment will last for hours but decreases with scraping frequency and increasing temperature.
-
When the oxide continues to form, add buttons.
